Identify the doctrine: Heavenly Father has a plan for His children. Today in singing time just doing a review, no new songs/doctrine.

Listening and Singing Experiences:

Junior Primary/Senior Primary

Singing Time:
  1. Articles of Faith Songs: 2 and 3. Sing through the Second Article of Faith (kids have been working on it). The Third Article of Faith is a new song. Show the children the picture and ask them to tell you about it - keep it simple: This is a picture of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. It was there He atoned, or paid for, our sins. Because of His Atonement, if we choose the right and repent when we don't, we can return to live with our Heavenly Father and Savior. Have the pianist play through the song and sing the song to them (words will be written on the blackboard). Invite the kids to sing along with you. Sing again, but this time erase a few of the words on the board (or invite a reverent child to do so).
  2. Tell the children that this month we celebrate Valentine's Day. We'll be doing a Valentine's game to help us remember and practice some of our favorite songs.
  3. Valentine's Game:
    • Invite 2 reverent children to the front. Give each child one dice to roll. Explain that the child with the highest number will get to choose a pair of hearts - one heart is the song we will sing and the other heart is how we will sing it. The child with the lowest number will get to help the music leader in the front! (If the children are uncomfortable helping you, they can sit down - or switch the roles as necessary).
    • Child choose a pair of hearts, sing the song using the way described. Use your judgment - if the kids are getting to rowdy, tell them they won't be able to sing the songs in fun ways, just sing them through while sitting down reverently.
    • Repeat with as many children as you can for 15 minutes.
    • Songs:
      • I Love to See the Temple (95)
      • My Heavenly Father Loves Me (228)
      • Book of Mormon Stories (118)
      • Families Can Be Together Forever (188)
      • Stand for the Right (159)
      • Nephi's Courage (120)
      • I Feel My Savior's Love (74)
      • Head Shoulders Knees and Toes (275)
    • Ways to Sing:
      • Standing on one foot
      • Marching around the room
      • Clap on the word ______ (you choose the word)
      • Sing and hum (open your hand when you want them to sing, close your hand when you want them to hum - you can have your helper do this too)
      • Drawing figure 8's in the air
      • Slow motion (sing the song extra slow) - be sure to only use this one on a song that is usually fast (I'll stack the deck)
      • Deep voices like your dads and grandpas
      • Patting your head (and add rubbing your stomach for those that want a challenge)
  4. For the last 2 minutes: Tell the children: To get us ready for our Gospel Instruction we are going to sing a reverent song - that means a quiet song that helps us think about Jesus. Sing "I Am a Child of God".

Identify the doctrine: Jesus Christ is the perfect example for me to follow. I can return to Heavenly Father by following Jesus Christ.

Listening and Singing Experiences:

Junior Primary/Senior Primary

Singing Time:
  1. Articles of Faith Songs: 1 and 2. Sing through the first article of faith (kids know it). For the second: have children stand up on "lieve" of believe when the notes jump an octave. Then, as the notes descend, have them slowly sit down. Clap out the rhythm of the first phrase, focusing on the first measure. Point out that the last 2 phrases are the same notes! Sing the second phrase quieter than the first like an echo.
  2. He Sent His Son: Explain that this song is full of questions and answers. Introduce the question and answer sticks (Popsicle sticks with either a question mark or an exclamation point on a cardstock circle)  by showing them and demonstrating how to hold them in our laps until we raise them high in the air. Separate the Primary into 2 groups: question and answer. Explain that when the question group hears a question, they are to raise their sticks high. When the question is answered, the answer group raises their sticks high. Talk about what clues we have to whether it's a question or answer (ie: the word "how" means a question, answers start with "He"). Sing through the song one phrase at a time and have the kids guess whether it is a question or answer phrase by raising or not raising their sticks. Sing the song all the way through at least twice. Don't switch groups today, switch next week to help the younger classes.
  3. Action Song.
  4. To get us ready for our Gospel Instruction we are going to sing a reverent song - that means a quiet song that helps us think about Jesus. Sing "I Feel My Savior's Love" with ASL - thank you to ArizonaForeverGirl for sharing your skills and this video on YouTube!

Identify the doctrine: I am a child of God and can be like Him someday. Today we will be focusing on our Sunbeams and welcoming them to Primary. We will be singing favorite songs the Sunbeams sang in Nursery.

Listening and Singing Experiences:

Junior Primary/Senior Primary

Singing Time:
  1. If we haven't already, sing "Here We Are Together" to the Sunbeams, using all of their names. Sing it a couple times, or until the rest of the Primary remembers all of the Sunbeams' names.
  2. Introduce the challenge that we are going to learn the 13 Articles of Faith songs this year! Have on the board the first Article of Faith poster and the Article written out (chalk). Sing the song once to the children. Talk about the poster: what they see, answer questions, clarify, etc. Sing the song a couple times through, erasing words as you go.
  3. Because it's our Sunbeams first Sunday, we are going to sing some of their favorite songs! Around the room there are suns. Each of our Sunbeams will get to choose a sun, and if there is still time, I'm going to look for Super Singers to choose from the rest! Quickly introduce what a Super Singer is to the Sunbeams using the poster.
  4. To get us ready for our classes we are going to sing a reverent song - that means a quiet song that helps us think about Jesus. This month we are going to sing "I Feel My Savior's Love".
