Listening and Singing Experiences:

Singing Time:

Junior Primary (11:15-11:35)
  1. Action Song: Hinges (277)
  2. Baptism (100), review verse 3 with Ooo and Sing sticks after singing it through once.
    • "Now we know that we must also" (point to head for "know")
    • "Witness faith in Jesus' word" (picture of the scriptures or hold up the Bible)
    • "Be baptized to show obedience" (picture of child being baptized)
    • "As was Jesus Christ, our Lord." (picture of Christ being baptized)
  3. Oh What Do You Do in the Summertime (245) - keep track of who participates/doesn't
    • If any children didn't get to participate in the song last week, be sure they get to participate first this week! If everyone had a turn, pull name sticks.
    • Bags/Props:
      • bag 1 = verse 1: fishing pole, blanket, poster cutout of a cloud
      • bag 2 = verse 2: goggles, fan, piece of rope (rope swing)
      • bag 3 = verse 3: baton (marching band), can of lemonade, telescope
    • Invite reverent children to come and choose an item out of the bag, quickly set them up and explain to them what they'll do when you sing their line in the song (for example, for verse 1 a child will lazily dream on the blanket as another child will "float" the cloud over their head).
    • Invite the children sitting down to sing the question with you, "Oh what do you do in the summertime when all the world is green?" Then sing the first question, pointing at the first child, sing the second question pointing at the second child, etc. Then, pointing back at the children sitting down, sing "Is that what you do? So do I."
    • Repeat for the next 2 verses.
  4. I Love to See the Temple (95)
    • Sing Verse 1 using simple hand actions.
    • Review Verse 2 using the art props from last week.
  5. Reverent Song: To Think About Jesus (71)
Senior Primary (12:05-12:25)
    1. Action Song: Hinges (277)
    2. Baptism (100), verse 3 review
    3. Finish up The Church of Jesus Christ Activity (from sugardoodle.net, thank you Aubrey Chaves for the great idea):
      • I will be following her outline except for these changes:
        • I know God's plan - Sing I Will Follow God's Plan (164)
        • I'll follow him in faith - Seek the Lord Early (108)
        • I'll do what is right - Choose the Right (Hymns 239)
    4. Oh What Do You Do in the Summertime (245) - keep track of who participates/doesn't
      • "I love summertime. It's my favorite time of the year. I like to go the beach, cook hot dogs and hamburgers, and go swimming in a pool."
      • "Now I have a question for you", (sing the following line): "Oh what do you do in the summertime when all the world is green?" Pause here, ask 1-3 children to share what they do. Invite the rest to share with their neighbor or their teachers what they do.
      • "I brought with me today 3 bags with some things in them that are going to help me find out..."(sing the following line) "Oh what do you do in the summertime when all the world is green?"
      • Preparation ahead of time:

  1. I was just wondering if you could tell me what your Ooo and Sing sticks, and how do you use them? Thanks

    1. They are at my church building or I'd take a picture, but our Stake Music leader made them for us! They are popsicle sticks with a cute word cutout of "Ooo" and "Sing". While we sing a song, I (or a child) will hold up one stick or the other. On the "ooo" we "ooo" (and I taught them how to make it sound pretty and to ooo to the melody), and on the "sing" we sing the words. It can get tricky to pick up with the right words right after "ooo"ing. Hope that makes sense!
