Listening and Singing Experiences:
Singing Time:
Junior Primary (11:15-11:35)
- Action Song: The Wise Man and the Foolish Man (283) using Rhythm Sticks.
- Articles of Faith Songs: 2nd - use number posters (in sheet protectors).
- I Love to See the Temple (95)
- Sing through verse 1, listen for and fix any problem areas.
- Teach verse 2: Display a picture of a temple hidden behind eight pieces of paper. On each piece of paper, write or draw one of the following: a heart, an open door, the word covenant, the word obey, the words holy place, the word sealed, a picture of a child, and a picture of a family. Tell the children that these are clues to a song. Invite them to listen carefully as you sing one line of the song. Ask them which clue goes with that line, and invite a child to remove that piece of paper. Sing the line again with the children, and explain what it means. You may invite them to do an action related to the line. Repeat with each line of the song. When you have uncovered the picture, sing the entire song with the actions. Tell the children that they can prepare now to be worthy to go to the temple when they are older and that doing so will bring them closer to Jesus Christ. (taken from October 2010 Primary Outline)
- I will most likely come up with my own clipart song clues since I'd like to use all pictures for the sake of my Junior Primary, but until then, here's an idea for the Song Clues.
- Another Action Song: Kids' Choice.
- Father's Day Medley
- Sing through the medley, listening for any trouble spots - fix them.
- Performance ready time: have children stand to sing. Review what a "Super Singer" is (using poster: eyes on me, smiling, singing, hands at side, holding still, etc.). While the children sing I watch for Super Singers and invite them to come sing in the front of the room by gently tapping them on the shoulder as I walk around. The idea is to have ALL the children up in front by the end of the song. I repeat this process until we achieve that. (and I'm careful not to single anyone out, I'm aware of my kids' individual needs/circumstances).
- Reverent Song: Reverently, Quietly (26)
- Same as Junior except:
- Sing the 6th and teach the 7th Article of Faith using pitch leading, go over tricky words.
- Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes
- Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam
- Follow the Prophet (chorus only)
- Book of Mormon Stories
- Popcorn Popping
- Wise Man and the Foolish Man
- Families Can Be Together Forever
- I Am a Child of God
- I Love to See the Temple
- My Heavenly Father Loves Me
- Fun to Do
